The person behind Felthaus Engineering
Felthaus Engineering is led by its founder, Glenn Felthaus, whose path runs straight through the workshop floor and on into engineering.
It started early, with a fascination for anything mechanical - lawnmowers, stereos, scooters, anything that could be taken apart, understood, repaired and put back to use. That curiosity grew into a serious interest in how things are produced and developed, and led to training as an industrial technician, where the work with CAD and mechanical design first took hold.
After several years in production, Glenn moved from the shop floor into design and engineering - first as chief CAD design engineer at a fabrication shop specialising in one-off, speciality builds in black and stainless steel, then as project manager at another fabrication shop. There he was responsible for much of the production throughput, CAD and design documentation and project management, including EN 1090 CE compliance and the manufacture of food-grade contact components.
Glenn then began freelancing in mechanical engineering, CAD and design for clients including NNE, completed a BEng in Mechanical Engineering, and Felthaus Engineering became a reality.
Since then, the work has meant collaborating with engineers across disciplines - electrical, HVAC, structural - and with the fabricators who build the result, helping each side read and meet the other's requirements. Glenn often describes the role as the dictionary between the engineers and the fabricators: someone who comes from both worlds and understands the rationale and the constraints on each side.
